Proposed Sections

The sections show the reactions of the tentacles to the changing tides.

Proposed Alterations and Additions

Various diagrammatic proposals in context to the 'operations' performed in the newspaper model.

The proposals placed on site with the language of layers and undulations creating the necessary alterations and additions to the site.

Newspaper + Operations

The various operations performed on layers of newsprint to create instances of spaces, based on the emotions associated with a newspaper article.

The operations short-listed and further used for the operations on site.

Act 3

The drawing shows the surrounding in colour and the site (at Juhu beach) through the shadow world which is in monochrome.

The above images are the views from a shadows perspective showing the character of the Juhu beach.

Infromation Dissipated from Site

The turn at the main Beach entry with a detail of the road and its objects
The main attractor on the stretch, with its implicit codes of being looked at and used.
A shot of the other end of the site/stretch with the billboards and the access to beach and the Juhu-Tara Road.

Varying types of codes and visuals diversify the site and are registered in varying degrees of importance in the mind. A walk through the road and a few minutes of photographing clearly demarcates levels of protection of the objects on site, from the very public to the very protected.

Site video

While walking on the road near Juhu Beach, I see a dark profile at the ground attached to me by my shoes. The bright sun above made me lose my way until I found myself into this dark monochrome world. The shoe I was attached to took me from the cemented roads and parking to paved paths to the sanded beach, where finally I was split apart into two.

Site pictures:Mora village(juhu koliwada)

The site is not alive when you look from the outside. But when you enter you see a whole new city growing inside. At every point the surrounding keeps talkin to you, there is constant a connection between you and the space. The site is cramped and it opens into the beach front relaesing feeling of getting stuffed.

site introduction : nehrunagar slums

site pictures
site sections

The journey taken is the path within the slums which connects the slums to the main node in the slums. The path taken is dark and narrow ,so the journey taken is in search of light. During the journey normal everyday objects tend to appear as terrifying characters coming towards me.

Site: juhu village

The site is an old village settlement in Juhu. While walking in the lanes, at various instances, the experience becomes similar, yet throughout the lane there are various experiences. Thus the village is a recurrent conjuncture. While walking through the site there is no context to the city, except when markers are spotted that relates the site to the city of Mumbai. The interplay of being in the site and the appearance of markers constantly throws the experiencer back and forth from the site into the city.

Act 2_week 3

While walking on a fairly isolated beach, I observed a number of objects that are hostile, receptive or reactive to the sea. These objects modulated the existing landscape by juxtaposing additive layers of varying textures, colours, pockets of gestures, line of encroachments etc.

The thought taken from the supernatural plot is to create a different surrounding filled with new experiences rather than a mundane and monotonous one. The site selected is a long street surrounded by buildings and by lanes on either sides. The journey from one end to the other of the street is repetitive and dull owing to the trees, street lamps, texture of buildings and cars.

This stretch of Juhu contains diverse languages, ranging from materials to scales to the people using this. This heterogenity and multilpicity offers areas to explore the variety of information presented, which can be further experimented upon and personalized to suit one's needs.

lapse of surrounding

Heterogeneity Multiplied_Juhu Tara Road

Personalization of a generic object/event leads to individual responses based on the user’s requirements. The same newspaper is presented to readers everywhere. This conditions the mind and creates an environment, which is individual to each reader. Further filtration of these environments creates a personal or customized view point.
The site is a large catchment for large masses of people, a place where people pass through and speaks of many differing environs- the forest, the ghostly lots, the dense pockets and the exaggerated pieces of extravagance. This site, containing varying slices of living and empty environments and being host to a vast strata of society, will be used for experiments on personalization and categorization.

existentially underground

The site chosen is Kaifi Azmi park, on 10th road , JVPD scheme. Whilst walking on the main road, I am surrounded by the concrete jungle, and suddenly my eyes fall on this beautiful park, with lush green trees, and sprawling plants.
Like a lost traveller drawn towards an oasis in the middle of the desert, I walked into the park and found myself in another world. Suddenly everything went black around me.
All I could see was faint, silvery-white, ghostlike tendrils all around me. That was when i realised I was trapped underground.

Act 1_week 2 : (Dis)appearing of the Tidal Monster

THE AMUSING TIDAL MONSTER

I was walking on the beach all alone, the sea calm and smooth. The journey became monotonous after a long stretch of walking and so I picked up a stone of the shore and threw it far into the sea. The object shimmered and drifted towards the sea, the waves became mysterious. It was astonishing to see an enormous creature arising from the sea, so I took a step forward towards it and instantly it disintegrated with the waves. The urge to see the same instance again I immediately picked up another stone and threw it further away, creature arose again which more number of tentacles. Every time I threw, the tentacles differed based on the distance.

the dark night

"There is no darkness but ignorance" - William Shakespeare

I awoke with a start.
"What was that noise I wonder?"
To the corner of the room my eyes did dart,
And I felt my body shudder.

No words can be a fitting description
Of what lay before my eyes.
On hindsight, maybe it was a manifestation
Of the darkness that in my mind lies.

But in that moment nothing else mattered,
Just total paralyzing horror did i mark;
And in the cold terror, my teeth chattered
As I was overcome with fear of the dark.
